To create locations and/or departments in the Chart of Accounts, you must first make sure that the Chart of Accounts mask is set up to accommodate locations and/or departments. When the Chart of Accounts window is active, you may enter location and/or department descriptions by selecting Enter Location and Department Descriptions from the Edit or the right-click context menu. Or, from the Create Locations and Department dialog, you may click the Enter Loc/Dept Descriptions button.

Note: You do not need to set up location and/or department descriptions to enter account numbers that take into account the existence of locations and/or departments. As long as you have set up the Chart of Accounts mask to accommodate locations and/or departments, account numbers may be entered using L and/or D values.

When the Setup > Chart of Accounts window is active, choose Create Location and Department Accounts from the Edit menu or from the F3 or right-click context menu.

Once the departments and locations have been named, you can use the Create Locations and Departments dialog to add them to the Chart of Accounts. The application will create accounts for each location/department combination and assign them to the combining accounts.

Example: Assume that the Chart of Accounts mask is defined as LDCCC.CC, that you have created combining accounts with the numbers 100 and 200, and that you have set up one location assigned as number 1 and two departments assigned as 1 and 2.

When you click the Create button, the application would add the following accounts to the Chart of Accounts:

  • 11100
  • 11200
  • 12100
  • 12200
