Displays the description of the selected withholding item.
If the W-4 specifies an additional state withholding amount per paycheck (or an additional percentage of gross pay), enter the amount (or percentage) in the appropriate field.
Certain states allow for an exemption amount based on marital status, number of dependents, and job status. These exemptions are determined in such a way that no single table can be created to correctly reflect the calculation, and the amount may differ among employees.
If applicable for the current template, calculate the annual exemption amount and enter it in this field.
If you enter a fixed amount (or a fixed percentage of gross pay) for state tax to be withheld from the paychecks of an employee based on the selected template, Payroll CS uses this amount (or percentage) and disregards all other state withholding instructions.
However, if the Use greater of fixed or calc'd amt checkbox is marked, the program calculates the state withholding and uses the calculated amount if it's greater than the state withholding specified in the Fixed amount field (or the Fixed percentage field).
Some states specify a percentage of federal withholding for state tax, which may vary among employees.
If appropriate for the selected template, enter the percentage to use for this calculation.
Some states give extra allowances for being over age 65. Mark the appropriate checkbox(es) if applicable for this template.
Some states give extra allowances for being blind. Mark the appropriate checkbox(es) if applicable for this template.
If you enter a fixed amount (or a fixed percentage of gross pay) for state tax to be withheld from the paychecks of an employee based on the selected template, Payroll CS uses that amount (or percentage) and disregards all other state withholding instructions.
However, if the Use greater of fixed or calc'd amt checkbox is marked, the program calculates the state withholding and uses the calculated amount if it's greater than the state withholding specified in the Fixed amount field (or the Fixed percentage field).
This checkbox also has potential for overriding the Fixed percent of Federal W/H field.
