Change to CS Support service hours

Our Support department is closed on Friday, April 28th for a company event. However, limited Workpapers CS phone support is available on that date from 9 AM - 5 PM ET.

If you use a local installation of Workpapers CS, you can schedule regular backups of your firm's database. The backup includes data for all of your firm's clients. To use this procedure, you must have security privileges to back up the firm database and to access the File > Backup menu command.

If you are licensed to use Workpapers CS in the Virtual Office CS or the Software as a Service (SaaS) environment, this procedure does not apply to you because your firm data is backed up automatically on the servers that host your data.

  1. Open Accounting CS on the server where your database resides. If Accounting CS is not installed on the server, install the application as outlined in the Running desktop setup topic.
  2. Choose File > Backup and click the Schedule a recurring backup link to open the Scheduled Backup dialog. Show me.

  3. In the Scheduled Backup dialog, mark the Schedule backups to occur checkbox.
  4. Select a frequency from the drop-down list. You can select Daily, or select a specific day of the week for recurring backups.
  5. Click the Up and down arrow buttons buttons to specify a time of day for the backup.
  6. Enter a path for the backup file location, or click the Browse button to navigate to the location.
  7. In the User name and Password fields, enter a Windows account user name and password.
  8. Click OK to save your scheduled backup information and create a test backup to verify that the backup works as expected.

Notes

  • To complete the scheduled backups successfully, the servers that host your data must be powered on.
  • Workpapers CS keeps up to 11 scheduled backup files. The most recent backup file is called Backup.BDF. With each subsequent scheduled backup, it renames the last file to BackupArchive001.BDF, then BackupArchive002.BDF, and so on, through BackupArchive010.BDF. When the maximum number of backups have been created, the application deletes the oldest of the 11 backups and continues to rename in this manner.
  • Many third-party backup utilities such as Carbonite or Barracuda cannot back up SQL Server databases while the Microsoft SQL Server service is running. When you manually back up a firm database or create scheduled backups in Workpapers CS, the resulting backup files are in a format that can be backed up by those third-party utilities.
