You can streamline access to important documents by adding workpaper reference hyperlinks from the Trial Balance workspace and from within Microsoft Excel and Word. When you click a workpaper reference hyperlink, the linked workpaper opens in View mode.

Adding workpaper reference hyperlinks from within the Trial Balance workspace

  1. Verify that the Workpaper Reference column is visible in the current view.

    If the Workpaper Reference column is not visible, follow these steps to add it.

    1. Click the Views button in the ribbon.
    2. Click the Add Column Add Column button button.
    3. Select Workpaper Reference from the Column Type drop-down list.
    4. Click OK.
  2. In the Workpaper Reference column, double-click the row for the account to which you want to add a workpaper reference hyperlink and enter the workpaper name.
  3. When you start typing, any workpaper name that includes the characters you’ve entered appears as gray text in the field. You can quickly select the suggested workpaper name by pressing ENTER.

    Click the Search Workpapers Search Workpapers button button in the upper-left corner of the dialog to narrow the workpapers list using reference and description keywords. 

To assign a single workpaper reference to multiple accounts, select accounts while holding down the SHIFT key, right-click, choose Assign Workpaper Reference, select the desired workpaper in the Workpapers dialog, and click OK.

The reference hyperlink appears in the Workpaper Reference column in blue text.

Adding workpaper reference hyperlinks from the AdvanceFlow toolbar in Microsoft Excel and Word

This feature requires that you have installed the most recent versions of the AdvanceFlow Excel and Word Add-Ins.  

  1. With a workpaper open for editing in Microsoft Excel or Word, click the field or row in which you want to add a workpaper reference.
  2. Click the AdvanceFlow tab at the top of the screen and then click the Workpaper Reference button in the ribbon.
  3. In the Workpapers dialog, select the desired workpaper and click OK.

    Click the Search Workpapers Search Workpapers button button in the upper-left corner of the dialog to narrow the workpapers list using reference and description keywords.

The reference hyperlink appears in blue text.
