UltraTax CS tax return history not in Practice CS Client Dashboard

The UltraTax CS Return History portlet is available in the Practice CS Client Dashboard. The portlet pulls information from the selected client's tax return and displays it in a bar graph.

If the UltraTax CS Return history is blank or not displaying the correct return history, verify the following. 

  1. In Practice CS, choose Setup > Firm.
  2. Click the Preferences tab.
  3. Verify that the Integrate this Firm with other solutions option is marked.
  • Visit the Practice CS: Current version topic to view the most recent version and instructions on how to verify your version.
  • The version of UltraTax CS should correspond to the current tax processing year. To verify that all updates have been applied, open UltraTax CS and retrieve updates via CS Connect.
  • You may need to download the most recent version of Practice CS and/or UltraTax CS from tax.thomsonreuters.com.
  1. In Practice CS, choose View > Firm Dashboard.
  2. Click the System Information portlet.

    Note: If you do not have the System Information portlet, click the Select Portlets link in the top right corner of Practice CS and mark System Information to add it.

  3. Look for the Integration/Datasharing path under the "Practice CS" section of the portlet, toward the bottom.
  4. Write down the Integration/Datasharing path.
  5. In the latest version of UltraTax CS, choose Setup > User Preferences.
  6. Click the File Locations tab.
  7. Look for the "Integrated applications" section of the window. Click the CS Practice Products option in that section.
  8. In the list of File Types and Locations, click Practice CS client data.
  9. The location should match the location from Step 3. If it does not, click the Modify Location button and browse to the location from Step 3. Click on the correct folder and click OK to choose it.
  10. Click OK to exit the File Locations window.
  1. Have all users close Practice CS.
  2. Using Windows Explorer, browse to the Practice CS Integration/Datasharing path found in the Systems Portlet on the Firm Dashboard.
  3. Open the Data folder, then open the Integration folder.
  4. Look for any .xml files. UltraTax CS shares information with Practice CS through .xml files in this folder. UltraTax CS creates the .xml file, then Practice CS picks up the file and deletes it.
  5. If there are no .xml files in the folder, try to create one by opening a client in UltraTax CS, previewing the client, and closing the client. Once the client is closed, the .xml file should appear.

    If there are .xml files in the folder, continue to the next step.

  6. Have one user open Practice CS.
  7. Monitor the Integration folder. The .xml files should disappear, which means that Practice CS has picked up the information. Depending on the amount of information contained in the .xml files, it may take several minutes for the files to disappear.
  8. Once the .xml files have disappeared from the Integration folder, other users may open Practice CS.
  9. Monitor the UltraTax CS Return History over the next several minutes. The amount of time required for the portlet to update is dependent upon the number of clients there are.
