Restoring custom methods, custom reports, or system settings from a backup copy

Show expandable text

Perform the following steps to restore custom methods, custom reports, or system settings (asset labels, data locations, import maps, or status system events) from removable media or a backup location on the hard drive or in FileCabinet CS (if licensed) to the active location on the hard drive.

  1. If the custom methods, custom reports, or system settings (asset labels, data locations, import maps, or status system events) are archived on removable media, insert the media in the appropriate drive.
  2. Choose File > Restore.
  3. Fixed Assets CS defaults to looking for client data on floppy drive A. Because you are not restoring client data, click Cancel to close the Clients Not Found dialog and open the Restore dialog.
  4. Verify that appropriate data location appears in the Data location field at the top of the dialog.
  5. Make the appropriate selection (Custom Methods, Custom Reports, or System Settings) from the drop-down list at the top of the dialog.
  6. If the custom methods, custom reports, or system settings you are restoring are not on drive A, click the Change Backup Location button, navigate to the correct drive and path, and click OK.
  7. All custom methods and custom reports appear as a single list item in the Available pane. If you chose System Settings, Fixed Assets CS displays four items - Asset Labels, Data Locations, Import Maps, and Status System Events - for restoring. Click the Select button to move the items to the Selected pane.
  8. Click the Restore button.
  9. After the restore is complete, click Done.

Tips

  • The fields in the Focus client listing group box at the bottom of this dialog and the options in the Backup data group box are not available when you are restoring custom methods, custom reports, or system settings.
  • To restore custom methods, custom reports, or system settings from FileCabinet CS, mark the System backups in FileCabinet CS checkbox in the Focus client listing group box and use the Backup drop-down list to specify the backup location.
