Use the Edit Label Layout dialog to edit labels that can be attached to assets for identification purposes when performing tasks such as fixed asset inventories. You can choose to have the asset label display various information, including the group number, asset number, description, serial number, location, and date acquired for each asset.
To open this dialog, choose Utilities > Asset Labels. In the Asset Labels dialog, click Continue, then click the Edit button.
Fields & buttons
Lists the currently saved layouts that are available for your labels.
- To create a new layout, click the Add button.
- If you made changes to an original default layout and you want to restore the defaults of the original version, highlight the layout in the Defined label layouts field and click the Default button.
Tip: When you click the Add button to create a new layout, Fixed Assets CS makes a copy of the layout that is currently highlighted in the Defined label layouts field. Therefore, highlight the layout most similar to what you want the new layout to look like, and then click the Add button.
Click this button to add a new item to the list.
Click this button to modify the highlighted item.
Click this button to delete the highlighted items.
If you added a new asset label based on a default layout and you want to return to the original, unedited version, highlight the layout in the Defined label layouts field and click this button.
Note: This feature does not work for layouts created not using a default layout.
This shows the name of the currently selected layout.
Click this button to saves the information and add the item to the list.
Click this button to cancel the current procedure without saving any changes.
Select the desired label size from the drop-down list.
Click the Define label size button to open the Define Label Size dialog, which allows you to add new label sizes.
For each field you selected from the Available Fields list, you can choose to show the field on the asset label as text or as a barcode. Choose the desired option from the drop-down list.
Use the buttons to move the field that is currently selected in the Available Fields list.
Refer to the preview box at the bottom of this dialog for a preview of the label.
If you placed two fields on the same line on the asset label, click this button to move the field on the left to the right and the field on the right to the left.

Lists all of the fields that are available for the asset label. These fields include asset information such as asset number, date placed in service, serial number, and so on.
- Mark the checkbox to include the field in the label. The field appears in the preview pane at the bottom of this dialog.
- Clear the checkbox to remove the field from the label.
This shows a preview of what the label looks like with the current settings.
Click this button to close this dialog and save any changes you have made.
