Deliverable Due Dates changed because of COVID-19 tax extension

Alerts and notices

Individual tax filing deadlines for Federal and many States have been adjusted due to Notice 2020-18 (COVID-19) relief for federal extension of time to file and pay. In GoFileRoom, you can update the due dates in your firm's deliverables list and dates on current or newly rolled forward workflows, using the following steps. Review the following items and select the method(s) that align with the way that your firm is handling the due date changes related to COVID-19.

Changing the current due dates on existing workflows

A FirmFlow administrator can perform bulk updates to your existing workflows to efficiently update multiple workflows at one time. This method is recommended for firms who have begun work on the current year workflows and are changing the current due date of these workflows. See Performing bulk updates to FirmFlow folders for detailed steps.

Notes

  • At step 2, select the BULK IMPORT TEMPLATE (BY DELIVERABLE) report.
  • At step 12, change the Current Due Date within the worksheet.

Updating the deliverables list and rolling forward workflows

If your firm has workflows that have not been worked on for the current year, a FirmFlow administrator can update the current due dates in the master deliverables list, then roll forward the workflows. See Updating the original due date for deliverables in existing workflows for detailed steps.

If you use this method, your firm will need to change the current due dates back to 4/15 in the master deliverables list prior to rolling forward next year's workflows.

Adding an extension date

A FirmFlow administrator can use the following steps to add an extension date to the appropriate deliverables and batch extend workflows. This method is intended for firms who have begun work on the current year workflows and have decided to treat this as an extension of the due date rather than to change the original due date.

  1. Change the first and second extension dates on the appropriate deliverables. You can do this in one of two ways.
    • Edit the deliverable dates from a workflow.

      Example 1

This example shows the 1040 US Individual Income Tax Return deliverable updated to a first extension date of 7/15 and a second extension date of 10/15.

    • Follow the deliverables list import process to add.

      Example 2

This example shows the 1040 US Individual Income Tax Return deliverable worksheet prepared for import to update the first extension date to 7/15, and the second extension date to 10/15.

  2. Extend the due date for multiple deliverables at one time, using the new extension date.

If you use this method, your firm will need to remove the 7/15 extension date from the master deliverables list prior to next year's workflows.
