GoFileRoom setup checklist and troubleshooting guidelines

Use the following checklist to configure workstations and utility servers. You must complete the steps in the Workstation setup section below to ensure optimal performance in GoFileRoom.

We strongly recommend that you also verify all settings in the troubleshooting sections below, which will help you to resolve most common issues in GoFileRoom.

If you're also licensed for AdvanceFlow, you'll need to complete the IT checklist for AdvanceFlow after completing the GoFileRoom setup checklist.

Workstation setup

Follow these steps to set up a workstation.

  1. Configure Internet Explorer for use with GoFileRoom.
    Security tab settings
    1. In Internet Explorer, choose Tools > Internet Options and click the Security tab.
    2. Click the Trusted Sites icon and then click the Sites button.
    3. Clear the Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone checkbox.
    4. In the Add this web site to the zone field, enter *.GoFileRoom.com.
    5. Click the Add button.
    6. Mark the Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone checkbox and then click Close.
    7. Click the Custom level button.
    8. Select Low from the Reset to drop-down list and click the Reset button.
    9. In the Settings list, locate the Display mixed content setting in the Miscellaneous section and click the Enable option.
    10. If prompted to verify your changes, click Yes.
    11. Click OK.
    Advanced tab settings
    1. In Internet Explorer, choose Tools > Internet Options and click the Advanced tab.
    2. In the Settings list, locate the Use TLS 1.2 checkbox in the Security section and verify that it is marked.
    3. Click Apply, then click OK.
    Compatibility View settings
    1. Choose Tools > Compatibility View Settings.
    2. If gofileroom.com is included in the list, select it and click Remove.
    3. Verify that the Display intranet sites in Compatibility View checkbox is not marked.
    4. Click Close.
  2. View browser requirements.

    Navigate to www.gofileroom.com and click the View browser requirements link. If any row in the Microsoft System Files reads "No" or "-", click the corresponding link and install the files.

    If, after installation, the System Files still read "No," or "-", you must manually register the files by following these steps.

    1. Click the Windows Start button.
    2. Enter "cmd" in the Search programs and files field.
    3. In the Start menu, right-click the cmd.exe file and choose Run as Administrator.
    4. Click Yes in the User Account Control dialog and in the Command window that opens, enter regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\msxml6.dll (if configuring a 32-bit workstation), or regsvr32 C:\Windows\SysWow64\msxml6.dll (if configuring a 64-bit workstation).
    5. Press ENTER and click OK in the confirmation dialog.

      Note: If you receive a message indicating that the file cannot be found, contact GoFileRoom Support to acquire the necessary file.

    6. In the open Command window, enter regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\MSCOMCTL.ocx (if configuring a 32-bit workstation), or regsvr32 C:\Windows\SysWow64\MSCOMCTL.ocx (if configuring a 64-bit workstation).
    7. Press ENTER and click OK in the confirmation dialog.

    Note: for Windows 7, turn User Account Control off or set it to its lowest setting prior to installing and registering the files. Remember to turn User Account Control back on after successfully installing and registering the files.

  3. Delete temporary internet files to ensure that Web pages update correctly and display accurate content.
    1. In Internet Explorer, choose Tools > Internet Options, and click the General tab.
    2. Click the Settings button.
    3. Click the  Every time I visit the webpage option and click OK.
    4. Click the Delete button.
    5. Verify the following.
      • The Preserve Favorites website data checkbox is unmarked .
      • The Temporary Internet Files and website files checkbox is marked .
      • The Cookies and website data checkbox is marked
    6. Click Delete.
    7. After the delete process is finished, click OK.

Utilities/server related

  • Files are not uploading or importing correctly.
    1. Verify the upload login credentials and restart the services.
    2. In the Security section of the UploadDocuments and/or File Import folders, verify that the group "Everyone" has Full Control permissions.
  • Tax returns printed to PDF by certain users are not importing into GoFileRoom.

    All users who print Tax Returns from third-party tax software should be aware of the proper naming convention for the GoFileRoom File Importer utility service. Refer to the File Importer Service overview for details.

  • Users are not receiving correspondence from GoFileRoom and/or email notifications from FirmFlow.

    Ensure SPAM filtering allows all GoFileRoom email and notifications.

    • Ports 80 and 443 should be open by default.
    • Allowed IP addresses should be

    • Allow access for the files listed at the end of this document.

    Note for AdvanceFlow users: Starting May 19, 2019, the core AdvanceFlow application and all engagement data except documents displayed as workpapers in AdvanceFlow (which are stored in GoFileRoom) will be hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers instead of Thomson Reuters servers. Because of this, AdvanceFlow differs from some of the other applications as follows.

    • Thomson Reuters no longer directly supports restricting access to AdvanceFlow by IP addresses, either static or range-based.
    • If your firm chooses to limit internet access, we recommend that you control this by URL, and allow www.gofileroom.com and www.advanceflow.com (and any others that may be necessary, such as for email, NetClient integration, etc.) and avoid IP address-based controls.
    • If your firm chooses to limit access by IP address, refer to the instructions provided by Amazon (using the US East 1 ranges).
    • If you have any additional questions, please reach out to Support to address any unique concerns or situations.

  • Issues with editing PPC documents that open in Microsoft Word.
  • Some actions are blocked when using GoFileRoom.

    Set the Firewall using the following:

    • Configure the WAN failover and load balancing settings. For example, using a SonicWall Firewall, configure Basic Active/Passive Failover with Preempt and failback to Primary WAN when possible checked, or Percentage-Based with Use Source and Destination IP Addresses Binding checked.
