GoFileRoom browser-independent frequently asked questions

Alerts and notices

From June 1, 2020 until August 23, 2020, the enhanced, browser-independent version of GoFileRoom is available in Google Chrome via the https://www.bi.gofileroom.com URL. During this phased approach the legacy version of GoFileRoom will continue to be available in Internet Explorer via the https://www.gofileroom.com URL.

Beginning on August 24, 2020 all of the browser-independent features will be accessible from the https://www.gofileroom.com site, and users who attempt to access the https://www.bi.gofileroom.com site will be redirected to https://www.gofileroom.com.

To be able to edit files in GoFileRoom, you must install the latest GoFileRoom Client Add-in from Internet Explorer (v.19.0.4 or higher).

Note: You can log into GoFileRoom with the same login ID in a single browser session only – either in Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.

The following frequently asked questions provide further information to assist you in understanding and navigating the browser-independent environment.

Browser independence

Starting to work in the browser-independent site

There is no upgrade required to use the new site at https://bi.gofileroom.com, but you are required to install the GoFileRoom Client Add-in (19.0.4 or higher). Also, there are no updates required for the Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel GoFileRoom Add-ins in the browser-independent version of the application.

Note: You must use Internet Explorer to install the GoFileRoom Client Add-in.

Opening GoFileRoom in two different browsers

You can only be logged into GoFileRoom via one browser at a time — either Google Chrome or Internet Explorer.

Working in browsers other than Internet Explorer and Google Chrome

Similar to working in an unsupported environment, you may encounter unpredictable behavior if you choose to use browsers other than Google Chrome or Internet Explorer. We have completed extensive testing in Google Chrome and Internet Explorer, and our Support team is trained to assist you in those environments.

New features and changes

Using the new Document Search

Launching the GoFileRoom ControlPanel

You are currently required to install the local add-ins via the Internet Explorer browser. As a result, you must also launch the GoFileRoom ControlPanel from Internet Explorer. Google Chrome will be made available as an option in a future release.

Editing documents in GoFileRoom

Open GFRLink message image

You need to open the GFRLink application to be able to display your documents in their native applications, such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel, and to save any changes back into GoFileRoom.

Note: This message is related to a Chrome security setting that occurs for all links that open another application. For details, see the Google Chrome help.

Exporting multiple documents

Yes, users with the appropriate permission enabled from the Administration > Manage Users & Groups screen (Allow user to work offline) will have the ability to export more than one file at a time. For details, see Exporting documents from GoFileRoom.

Other information

Working in GoFileRoom in an unsupported environment

We do not recommend using GoFileRoom in an unsupported environment due to the unpredictable behavior in those environments, and the limited assistance that we would be able to provide.

For details, see Unsupported environments for CS Suite applications
