There is a fast and easy way to copy an entire column of data from one column (alternative and year) to another. This facilitates copying data when you have entered an entire year's data and want to copy it to another year or alternative without accessing each data-entry field and using the Auto Copy feature. This will overwrite any data entered in the destination column in all data-entry fields. However, application-generated items, such as personal exemptions, will still default correctly based on the destination year.

You have the option to copy data from one column to another column in the current tab or throughout the entire plan.

If you choose to copy data from one column to another throughout the entire plan (by choosing Edit > Copy Column > Entire Plan), the Copy Column function will copy all data entry from the Source column to the Destination column in all data-entry tabs, not just the current tab. You may want to back up the plan's data before copying a column.

  1. With a plan open, choose Edit > Copy Column and choose either Current Tab Only or Entire Plan.
    • To copy data from one column to another in the current tab only, leaving data in other tabs as they are, choose Edit > Copy Column > Current Tab Only.
    • To copy data from one column to another in every tab in the plan, choose Edit > Copy Column > Entire Plan.

In the Copy Column - Current Tab Only dialog or in the Copy Column - Entire Plan dialog, you will need to select the column that you want to copy in the Source group box. The Alternative and Year fields will default to the column in which the cursor is currently located. However, you can select another column from the drop-down list. You also need to select the Destination column, which is the column to which data will be copied.

  2. In the Source group box, select the column to copy from by selecting an alternative from the Alternative drop-down list and a year from the Year drop-down list.
  3. In the Destination group box, select the column to copy to by selecting an alternative from the Alternative drop-down list and a year from the Year drop-down list.
  4. Click OK.

Note: If you chose Edit > Copy Column > Current Tab Only, data is copied from the Source column to the Destination column in the tab that is currently open. If you chose Edit > Copy Column > Entire Plan, data is copied from the Source column to the Destination column in every tab in the plan.
