Why does Form 8878 or 8879 not print even when Screen PIN data entry is completed for the Self-Select PIN and the Self-Select PIN disclosure form prints?


The IRS does not require Form 8878 or Form 8879 when the taxpayer enters a PIN. This is indicated in the Electronic Filing folder in Screen PIN in the PIN authorization indicator field. If the PIN authorization indicator indicates the Electronic Return Originator (ERO) entered a PIN on behalf of the taxpayer, Form 8878 or 8879 will print.
