What is a superseding return?

A superseding return is a corrected return that is filed within the filing period (including extensions). For example, for a calendar year-end partnership, if you originally filed an extended return with the IRS on June 1, 2018 and had to file a corrected return on or before September 15, 2018, the return would be considered a superseding return.

To indicate the return is a superseding return, mark the Superseding return field in Screen 1065 in the General folder. UltraTax CS prints "Superseding Return" at the top of Form 1065, Page 1 and on Schedule K-1 for all partners.
