Use this dialog to select the criteria to use in the search.

To open this dialog, click the Add or Edit button in the Add/Modify Searches dialog to open the Select Search Criteria dialog.

Fields & buttons

Use this field to add the name of a new search or change the name of an existing search that you or someone in your firm created.

Note: Each search within the client database that you selected from the Data Mining window must have a unique name.

Select federal or a state to indicate which returns or input screens you want to search for specific forms, calculated values, and/or input screen field values. This field lists all licensed federal and state applications for the client database that you selected in the Data Mining window.

Click this option to display the list of forms available for the selected federal or state application. When you select a form from this list, the search examines the database to find clients for whom that form was prepared. To search for clients for whom the form was not prepared, click the Form option and click the Not prepared option.

Note: Forms criteria only applies to clients whose returns have been calculated.

Click this option to display the list of calculated value criteria available for the selected federal or state application. When you select calculated value criteria from this list, the search examines the database to find clients whose data contains those search criteria.

Notes

  • Calculated value criteria do not apply to clients whose returns have not been calculated.
  • If the list of available criteria does not meet your needs (for example, if you want to specify the numeric values for the available criteria), click the Add/Modify button to add or modify calculated value criteria.
  • Predefined search criteria, which are included with Data Mining, cannot be modified.

Click this option to display the list of all available input screen field search criteria. When you select an input screen field from this list, the search examines the database to find clients whose data includes the acceptable values for that input screen field.

Tip: If the list of available criteria does not meet your needs, you can add or modify input screen field criteria.

Note: Predefined search criteria, which are included with Data Mining, cannot be modified.

Click this option to display the selected state application. When you select state attachment from this list, the search examines the database to find clients for whom that state was attached. To search for clients for whom the state return was not attached, click the State attachment option and click the Not attached option.

Note: This option is available only when a state is selected from the Product drop-down menu.

Click this option to display the list of all available return types.

Note: This option is available only when Federal is selected from the Product drop-down menu.

Click this option to display the list of all client status events.

Tips

  • To change what display in the pane, click the Logged anytime, Current status or Not logged options.
  • If the list of available criteria does not meet your needs, you can add or modify input screen field criteria.

Note: This option is available only when Federal is selected from the Product drop-down menu.

  • For calculated values - Click the Add/Modify button to open the Add/Modify Search Criteria dialog with the Calculated values list displayed. Here you can change the numeric values you want to find for each calculated value search criterion that you or someone in your firm created. You can also add new search criteria based on existing criteria.
  • For input screen fields - Click the Add/Modify button to open the Add/Modify Search Criteria dialog with the Input screen fields list displayed. Here you can add input screen fields to the list of available criteria and specify the data you want to find for each input screen field search criterion.
  • For Client status - Click the Add/Modify button to open the Add/Modify Search Criteria dialog with the Client status list displayed. Here you can add status events to the list of available criteria and specify the data you want to find for each event.

Note: This button is available only if you click the Calculated value, the Input screen field, or the Client status option.

When you add or modify a search criterion in the Search Criteria list, the new definition applies to all searches that use that criterion. If you do not want to affect existing searches, do not modify the search criterion. Instead, add and edit a new search criterion.

Highlight an available search criterion in this list and click the Select button to include the criterion in the search. The search examines the database to find clients whose data includes the criterion.

Notes

  • If the Form option is selected, the Available criteria list shows all forms for the selected federal or state application as prepared.
  • If the Not prepared option is selected, the Available criteria list shows all forms for the federal or state application as not prepared.
  • If the Calculated value option is marked, the Available criteria list shows the calculated value criteria available for the federal or state application.
  • If you click the Input screen field option, the Available criteria list shows all input screen fields that have been selected in the Add/Modify Search Criteria dialog as available criteria.
  • if you click the State Attachment option, the Available criteria list shows the attached or not attached options. (This option is available only when a state is selected in the Product drop-down menu.)
  • If you click the Return type option, the Available criteria list shows all available return types for the entity. (This option is available only when Federal is selected in the Product drop-down menu.)
  • If you click the Client status option, the Available criteria list shows all status events, both UltraTax CS status events and user-defined status events. (This option is available only when Federal is selected in the Product drop-down menu.)
  • Calculated value and form criteria do not apply to clients whose returns have not been calculated.

Tip: If the list of available criteria does not meet your needs, you can add or modify input screen field criteria.

Note: Predefined search criteria, which are included with Data Mining, cannot be modified.

Click this button to move the highlighted search criterion from the Available criteria list to the Selected criteria list below.

Tip: Click the Remove button to remove the highlighted search criterion from the Selected criteria list.

To remove a search criterion from the search, highlight the criterion in the Selected criteria list, then click this button. The criterion returns to the Available criteria list.

Displays the AND and OR relationships in the search formula if the selected search contains more than one criterion. If desired, you can edit the search formula.

Tip: Highlight a search criterion and click the Remove button to remove a search criterion from the list.

Click this button to open the Edit Formula dialog. In this dialog, you can change the relationship between search criteria.
