Error Code R0000-544-02:  The 'PrimarySSN' must not be the same as a 'DependentSSN' on another tax return if any dependents are listed in this return.

When receiving this rejection, verify that the taxpayers' SSNs are entered correctly in the Client Properties dialog. If either SSN needs to be corrected, enter the correct SSN and then recreate and resubmit the electronic file.

If this return is filed on behalf of a college age dependent, verify that the Dependent of Another and Meets certain children age 18 through 23 fields are correctly completed on Screen 1040. This should result in the taxpayer not receiving an exemption on 1040, Page 2.

If the taxpayer's SSN is, indeed, correct and the Dependent of Another questions are properly completed, you'll need to contact the IRS and file the return on paper because another return has been filed using the taxpayer's SSN as a dependent. If filing on paper, refer to Form 8948 - Paper Filing Exceptions.
