Question

Which forms in UltraTax/1040 are not filed electronically, but may be attached to Form 8453?

Answer

The following is a list of forms that are not filed electronically, but may be attached to Form 8453.

  • Form 2848, Power of Attorney and Declaration of Representative (for signing an electronically filed tax return as an agent of the taxpayer)
  • Form 8332, Release of Claim to Exemption for Child of Divorced or Separated Parents or similar statement

An acceptable substitute to Form 8949, Sales and Other Dispositions of Capital Assets may be attached to Form 8453 in lieu of reporting each transaction separately in the Schedule for detail statement dialog in Screen B&D. To do so, see Attaching a Form 8949 substitute to Form 8453.

Note: When you enter each Schedule D transaction separately in the Schedule for detail statement dialog in Screen B&D, UltraTax CS automatically includes Form 8949 in the electronic file and does not require an additional paper attachment to Form 8453.
