The Excel Import utility enables you to quickly and efficiently import shareholder information from a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to the UltraTax/1120 Shareholder Information window.

Before shareholder information can be imported from Excel, you must begin with an Excel spreadsheet that was previously exported from UltraTax CS. For more information, see Exporting shareholder information to Excel. You can enter information into the Excel spreadsheet as described in Excel Export/Import guidelines for shareholder information.

  1. Save the Excel spreadsheet before importing the spreadsheet into UltraTax CS. This ensures all recent changes will be imported.
  2. Open the UltraTax CS client for which you want to import shareholder information from Excel.
  3. Choose Utilities > 1120 Excel Import.
  4. In the Look in field, enter the path to the Excel file location.
  5. Enter the Excel file name in the File name field. The default file name is the same as the client ID.
  6. In the Information group box, click the Shareholder Data option.
  7. Click the Import button.

Note: If any errors occur during the import process, the Shareholder Data Import Error Messages dialog will list the errors encountered. After reviewing the error messages, click Done, correct the errors, and then re-import the file. Click the Print button in this dialog to print a list of the errors that occurred.
