Question

Is there a mandate for electronically filed fiduciary returns?

Answer

Yes. Beginning January 2012, any paid preparer or firm who reasonably anticipates preparing and filing 11 or more combined Form 1040 or Form 1041 returns generally must electronically file returns. However, clients who file the forms may independently choose to file by paper. If a client files by paper, the preparer should include Form 8948 with the return.
