Question

Why is Schedule D not fully completed for a charitable remainder trust?

Answer

Because capital gains for a charitable remainder trust are allocated differently from the way capital gains are allocated for other kinds of trusts, Schedule D, Parts III and IV are not required to be completed. The distribution is shown on Form 5227, Part III and a capital loss carryover is treated as a negative undistributed amount.
