Error

Database Validation Error: /Return/ReturnHeader/Filer/PrimarySSN: The Primary SSN in the Return Header has been locked because Social Security Administration records indicate the number belongs to a deceased individual. (value #########, rule IND-901)

Solution

The IRS is rejecting a larger volume of returns with this error code than in prior years.  This is an IRS e-file database (IRS master file) reject that is being issued by the IRS for deceased taxpayers.  The rejection indicates the SSN "has been locked because Social Security Administration records indicate the number belongs to a deceased individual."

If you receive this rejection, you will need to paper file the return with Form 8948 using rule IND-901.
