Question

How do I access the State allocation spreadsheet from Screen C, E, F, or 4835?

Answer

To access the State allocation spreadsheet, the following conditions must be present in the current client.

  • The client being processed must include at least one state return.
  • You must be viewing Client Organizer data entry or Tax Input Screen data entry.
  • For Screens 4835 and F, data must exist in the Description field.
  • For Screen C, data must exist in the Principal business field.
  • For Screen Rent, data must exist in the Property description field.
  • For all screens, the State field must include a postal code.

When these conditions have been met, you can access the spreadsheet from within the appropriate screen in any of the following ways: click the State allocation link; press CTRL+B; right-click and choose Allocation from the context menu; or choose View > Allocation from the toolbar.

New Mexico Note: New Mexico requires Schedules C and F federal net income to be apportioned based on sales, payroll, and property owned. Amounts calculated in the State allocation spreadsheet do not transfer to New Mexico for purposes of the PIT-B calculation. Apportionment information must be entered in Screen NMAppt.

For nonresidents with only federal Schedule C income taxable to New Mexico if qualified to use Schedule CC, the gross income will be multiplied by the New Mexico percentage if allocated by percentage in the State allocation spreadsheet. If allocating by amount, the amount allocated to New Mexico, divided by the total net income, will be multiplied by the gross income. If the gross income is different from the calculated amount, enter the gross income amount in the Gross sales in or into New Mexico (Force) field in Screen NMNRPY.
