Question

Form 8829 is not complete even though I have entered direct and indirect expenses. What am I missing?

Answer

Check to see if you have entered the total number of square feet and the number of square feet used for business purposes. You can enter square footage information in either the asset module or Screen 8829.

Also, check to see if you have elected to use the Simplified Method. Look for the Deduction for Business Use of Home – Simplified Method worksheet.

Note that Form 8829 is only completed if the office in home is for a Schedule C. For other activities, check to see if the Business Use of Your Home Worksheet is completed for the activity.
