Answer

The Filing Status Optimization utility is a valuable tool that helps you determine which filing status will be most advantageous for your married clients. The utility provides an automated method of producing separate returns from one set of joint data in the event that married filing separately is best. A detailed report shows the federal tax calculation based on joint data, two columns for taxpayer and spouse based on their married filing separate status, and a column which shows the sum of the federal tax calculation based on separate data.
