Question

Why do I have a tax calculating for Health care: individual responsibility on Form 1040, Schedule 4, line 61?

Answer

The calculation for this penalty displays on the Health Care: Individual Responsibility Worksheet. If the taxpayer’s entire family has health care coverage for the full year, remove the penalty by entering 1 (Yes) in the Entire family covered for full year with minimum essential health care coverage field on Screen Coverage in the Health Care folder. If the taxpayer has an exemption from coverage, enter the appropriate information on Screen Coverage in the Health Coverage Exemptions and Individual Responsibility data entry section.

Note: The individual mandate is eliminated for tax years that begin after 12/31/18; therefore, the mandate no longer calculates for 2019 and forward.
