Question

Is there a quick way to indicate that my clients had health care coverage?

Answer

Yes. There are several ways to quickly indicate that a taxpayer had health care coverage for the entire year.

  • Select the Health Care folder. The cursor automatically appears first in the Entire family covered for full year with minimum essential health care coverage field.
  • The Entire family covered for full year with minimum essential health care coverage field appears in several screens where health insurance premiums are entered, allowing you to select the health care coverage on the same screen. The field appears in the following screens: W2, 1099R, SSA-1099, C, F and K1-3; however, you only need to select coverage in one screen.
  • If the Entire family covered for full year with minimum essential health care coverage field has not been selected in any screen, a critical diagnostic appears. Click the diagnostic and UltraTax CS automatically displays Screen Coverage. If the taxpayer does not have full coverage, select 2 (No) to clear the diagnostic.

If everyone claimed on the tax return has minimum essential coverage, enter 1, Yes in the Entire family covered for full year with minimum essential health care coverage field. If full-year coverage is not applicable for the entire family, enter the family coverage information in the Detail of individual health care coverage or exemption statement dialog.
