Fields & Buttons

General group box

Mark this checkbox to have the tax application automatically complete the Screen W2, box 3, SS wages; and box 5, Medicare Wages.

Notes

  • This option applies to all 1040 clients.
  • Screen W2, box 3 and box 5 will not automatically complete when the W2 has Wage code 1, Minister.

Note: This option applies to all 1040 clients.

Mark this checkbox to have the tax application automatically complete the Screen W2, box 16, State wages; and box 18, Local wages.

Note: The state wages and local wages boxes will not fill out automatically if the postal code of the home address on Screen 1040 is one of the following states: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming.

Mark this checkbox to have the tax application automatically optimize education expenses when printing or previewing returns for purposes of the education credit or deduction to determine which is more advantageous. This option is enabled by default.

Note: This option applies to all 1040 clients.

Mark this checkbox to have the tax application show expanded reporting detail of each permutation (how the credit was taken over deduction, or vice versa) and institution by institution detail of tuition amounts on the Enhanced Education Optimization Report.

Note: This option applies to all 1040 clients.

The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form instructions state to use Form 1040 line 1 + Schedule 1, line 12 + Schedule 1, line 18 + Box 14 (Code A) of Schedules K-1 to calculate how much is earned from working. This information seems incorrect when examining how the income earned from work is used in the calculation of the EFC (Expected Family Contribution) Worksheet. The income earned from work is used in Table A2 of the EFC Formula to determine the Social Security tax allowance which is more accurate when using W-2 box 5 + line A.4 or B.6 of Schedule SE to calculate how much is earned from working.

UltraTax CS defaults to calculating the income earned from work using the FAFSA instructions (Form 1040 line 1 + Schedule 1, line 12 + Schedule 1, line 18 + Box 14 (Code A) of Schedules K-1). Mark this box to calculate the income earned from work according to its use on the Expected Family Contribution worksheet (W-2 box 5 + line A.4 or B.6 of Schedule SE).

Notes

  • This option applies to all 1040 clients.
  • You must have data on screen FAFSA in the Educate folder to print the FAFSA Worksheet.

Mark this checkbox to have the tax application automatically print the Tax Refund Worksheet to determine the amount of state and local income tax refunds that should be reported as taxable income on Form 1040.

Notes

  • This option applies to all 1040 clients.
  • You must complete the Tax refund worksheet amounts section in Screen Refunds in the Income folder.

Mark this checkbox to have the tax application print the key figure charts on the Tax Return History Report.

Notes

  • This option applies to all 1040 clients.
  • You must have data in Screen History in the Review folder to print the Tax Return History Report. Data will proforma to this screen.

Click this button to open the Tax Return History Chart Options dialog and select options for the chart type and key figures to report in chart form.

Mark this field to print the Tax Projection Worksheet for all clients. By default, UltraTax CS prints the Tax Projection worksheet automatically if Screen TPW contains any information.

When you mark this option, asterisked (*) fields on Screens TPW and TPW-2 default to current-year amounts.

If you need to override the current-year amount in an asterisked field for a specific client, simply enter another amount in the applicable field in Screen TPW or TPW-2. That amount will print on the Tax Project Worksheet.

Notes

  • Fields with asterisks contain non-recurring items (such as capital gains and tax on lump-sum distribution) that normally do not default to current-year amounts.
  • *Qualified Business Income fields do not have an equivalent current-year amount. You must enter data in those fields to calculate the qualified business income deduction.
  • *Credit fields report in the 2019 column with the same amount reported on the 2018 return. The credits are not recalculated.
  • *Force fields do not default to the current-year amounts. You may use these amounts to override those calculated on the Tax Projection Worksheets.
  • When this option is marked, you will receive an FYI diagnostic to remind you that when the Tax Projection Worksheet prints, the amounts in the asterisked fields will have defaulted to current year amounts.

Mark this checkbox to have the tax application use the same state postal code in the Resident state/rate field in Screen A as is entered in the Residence Information section in Screen 1040.

Note: This option applies to all 1040 clients.

Mark this checkbox to have the tax application automatically print the taxpayer and spouse daytime and evening telephone numbers (as entered in Screen Contact in the General folder) on the Federal Diagnostics page.

Note: This option applies to all 1040 clients.

Mark this checkbox to have the tax application automatically print the client's email addresses (as entered in Screen 1040 located in the General Folder) on the Federal Diagnostics page.

Note: This option applies to all 1040 clients.

Mark this checkbox to print a Bank Account Verification Report with the return. The client should use this report to verify the bank information entered on Screen Bank in the General folder.

Mark this checkbox to suppress printing a Bank Account Verification Worksheet with the return when the Taxpayer verified all bank information by field is completed on Screen Bank in the General folder.

Note: This checkbox is available only when the Print Bank Account Verification checkbox is marked.

Mark this checkbox to include amounts scheduled to be direct deposited or debited from the listed accounts. If these numbers will not be known when the client verifies the accounts, do not mark this checkbox.

Notes

  • This checkbox is available only when the Print Bank Account Verification checkbox is marked.
  • Amounts shown may be adjusted by the IRS.
  • If you mark this checkbox, the State Bank Account Verification will print even if the account information is the same for the federal return.

Click this button to open the Analysis Options dialog and select options for the Client and Comparative Analysis reports.

Notes

  • This option applies to all 1040 clients.
  • With this option marked, the client must still have Schedule A or Schedule C included in the return for the comparative analysis report to print.
  • The Schedule A Comparative Analysis average estimates Percent of AGI column is based on IRS Table 2.1 - Returns with Itemized Deductions: Sources of Income, Adjustments, Itemized Deductions by Type, Exemptions, and Tax Items, by Size of Adjusted Gross Income, Tax Year 2016.
  • The Schedule C Comparative Analysis average estimates Percent of Sales column is based on IRS Table 2 - Nonfarm Sole Proprietorships: Income Statements, by Industrial Sectors, Tax Year 2016. This table is included as part of the IRS's 2018 fall Statistics of Income bulletin for sole proprietors.

Mark this checkbox to have the tax application display informational diagnostics when certain items in the return (such as charitable contributions, itemized deductions, and alternative minimum tax) exceed the most recently published IRS averages for a specified adjusted gross income range. If a deviation percentage is not entered, UltraTax CS uses default averages calculated by the IRS as the benchmark for comparison. To increase the deviation, enter a percentage in the field provided. When this checkbox is not marked, informational diagnostics for IRS averages will not be displayed.

Note: This option applies to all 1040 clients.

Enter the depletion rate. If you do not enter a rate, UltraTax CS defaults to the current IRS value for the depletion rate for oil and gas properties.

State group box

Mark this checkbox to have the tax application use the federal amended return explanation of changes for the state return. If this option is selected, and there is no state-specific explanation entered on the state Screen Amend, then the explanation entered on federal Screen Amend will be used for the state explanation.

Mark this checkbox to include the email address entered for the taxpayer and/or spouse on federal Screen Contact on the state's return or in the state's electronic file, as applicable.

Electronic Filing group box

Mark this checkbox to have the tax application enter X in the File this return electronically field in Screen ELF on the first time in a proforma'd client.

Mark this box to issue an FYI diagnostic instead of an ELF Critical diagnostic for balance due returns with bank information on Screen Bank but no entry in Screen ELF fields Suppress electronic funds withdrawal or Requested payment date.

Notes

  • The purpose of the diagnostic is to appear for balance due clients with bank account information so the Electronic Return Originator (ERO) may designate the EFW preference prior to electronically filing the return. If the client meets the criteria (balance due and bank information), but prefers to not pay the balance due by EFW, enter X in Suppress electronic funds withdrawal field in Screen ELF. If the client prefers to pay the balance due by EFW, complete the Requested payment date in Screen ELF.
  • This option applies to all 1040 clients.

Mark this checkbox to globally suppress all auto-generated PDF attachments to the electronic file for all clients not yet opened. Once the checkbox is marked, the suppression fields for Partner's basis worksheets, Shareholder's basis worksheets, Net operating loss worksheetsEducation savings account (ESA) and Qualified Tuition Program (QTP) worksheets, and/or Farm income averaging worksheets on Screen 8453 (Auto-generated PDF Attachments - Suppression section) in the Electronic Filing folder will automatically be marked when a client is opened for the first time. To include any of these PDF attachments within the electronic file for a client, clear any or all of the suppressed attachment fields on Screen 8453 and recreate and transmit the electronic file.
