Form IT-205-A calculates and prints if the return is for a resident trust/estate with nonresident beneficiaries, or for a part-year or nonresident trust/estate. If there is no New York source income available to be distributed to nonresident beneficiaries, UltraTax/1041-NY does not print Form IT-205-A and a statement is generated of Form IT-205, Page 1 stating that Form IT-205-A is not required. Note that if income is available to to be distributed, but it is not actually distributed, Form IT-205-A will still print. To force Form IT-205-A to print, mark the Calculate Form IT-205-A due to a change of residency status checkbox on Screen NYGen.

Schedule 2, Income to beneficiaries

Schedule 2, Income to beneficiaries will not complete when Mark to use special allocations for beneficiary distributions checkbox is marked on Screen NYGen. The special allocation calculation does not use the percentage of DNI (distributable net income) and the state regulations indicate that it should not calculate. The state source income amounts will appear on the Schedule K-1 equivalents.

Schedule 4, State and city income

Interest and dividends from a trade or business source are taxable to the State of New York on Form IT-205-A, Schedule 4. To identify interest and dividends as taxable, enter an In State Source ($ or %), a state Postal Code as NY, and State use code 10 for interest and dividends entered on Screens Income, K1 and K1T. Interest and dividends may also be entered on Screen NYC, NYF and NYK1 as allocated income.

To include city income on Form IT-205-A, Schedule 4, at least one of the following must have data entry:

  • The Other income statement dialog on federal Screen Income has a City Code entered.
  • The City/state use code has a city entered on federal Screen C, F, or K1.
  • There is data entered in the Allocation of Net Earnings section on Screens NYC, NYF or NYK1, all located in the Income folder.
  • Interest, dividend or capital gain information is entered on Screen NY205A.
Note: If interest, dividend or capital gains are taxable to NYC or Yonkers, information must be entered on Screen NY205A.

To remove city income on Schedule 4, remove the city codes and/or information on any of the screens listed above, or enter zero (0) on Screen NY205A, City columns.

Schedule 6, Charitable deduction

Similar to federal Form 1041, Schedule A, Schedule 6 is not applicable and will not calculate if the entity is a simple trust, grantor trust or pooled income fund. If the entity is not one of those entity types and Schedule 6 is still not calculating, verify that Use federal amounts is checked or information in entered on Screen NY205A, Section IT-205A Schedule 6.
