The California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) supports electronic filing for the following forms:

  • Form 540 / Form 540NR (Both original and amended returns)
  • Form 3519 (Extension Payment, including estimate payments for next year)
  • Form 568 (LLC return)

For a complete list of forms supported for electronic filing, see Forms included in the Electronic Record.

Notes
  • Direct Debit/Deposit: For returns being filed electronically, direct debit is permitted for Forms 540/540NR (original and amended), 540-ES (next year’s estimates when included with the electronic record for Form 540/540NR), 3519 (extension payment and next year’s estimates if selected), 568, 3522 (next year’s LLC tax) and 3536 (next year’s LLC estimated fee, when included with the electronic record for Form 568). Direct deposit is also permitted for electronically filed Form 540/540NR for original returns. (FTB does not support direct deposit for Amended returns.) See Screen CABank, Screen CAELF and Screen CALLCBnk for more information.
  • Electronic Filing Mandate: Most, but not all preparers are required to submit returns electronically for the current year. The taxpayer may opt out of electronic filing by signing Form 8454 opt-out form.
  • PDF Attachment: PDFs may be attached to the Form 540/540NR or Form 568 electronic record. See PDF Attachments for more information.
  • e-Pay Mandate: Certain taxpayers are required to make payment via electronic means regardless of whether they e-file or paper file the return. The e-Pay mandate applies to taxpayers (not preparers) and is not related to the electronic filing mandate. See Mandatory e-Pay for more information.
