Question

What steps are required to proforma carryover information to next year?

Answer

  1. All three clients, the joint Civil Union client, and the single filing status clients identified in client properties for the taxpayer and spouse, must be in the same client data directory.
  2. The Civil union field in Screen NJCU must be marked in the single filing status clients when the Civil Union return is printed or previewed.

Note: Clearing this field clears the Proforma carryover information from civil union return field and deletes the carryover information. To restore the carryover information, print or preview the Domestic Partner return after marking this field.

  3. Amounts that proforma to next year’s federal screens to be allocated between the two federal returns must be entered in Screen NJCU. The information is displayed in the Civil Union return on the New Jersey Civil Union Proforma Report. Amounts not allocated do not proforma to next year. The information is not displayed in the current year separately filed clients. Information may be directly entered into next year’s screens to adjust allocations or if not allocated in the current year.
  4. All information that proformas directly to the New Jersey screens will proforma to the Civil Union return next year.
