The State of Illinois has several business rules in place to prevent returns from getting filed with invalid EIN or FEINs. For example, any EIN that is 00-0000000 or 99-9999999 will get rejected. An EIN entered for a grantor trust will also cause a rejection because grantor trusts are ignored for Illinois tax purposes. A grantor trust partner is treated as an individual and is taxed at the individual rate as seen on the K-1-P(3) and the Schedule B. Accordingly, Illinois expects the SSN of the grantor instead.
