E-file mandate

For tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2016 all taxpayers and tax preparers must file CBT returns and make payments electronically. The mandate includes all CBT returns, estimated payments, extensions, and vouchers.

For further information about the CBT e-file program, you may contact the Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services (DORES) at (609) 530-3227. For online assistance regarding your business filing and tax/employer reporting questions, see SONJ Digital Director.

Failure to comply with the electronic filing and payment mandate may result in penalties in accordance with N.J.S.A. 54:49-4.

Forms included in the e-file

The New Jersey Department of Revenue and UltraTax/1065-NJ support electronic filing for the following types of Partnership returns.

  • Calendar year
  • Fiscal year
  • Short year
  • Amended
  • Estimates
  • Extensions

Forms not supported for e-file

New Jersey does not support electronic filing of the following: 

  • Composite returns

Payment methods

You may make a payment by EFT (pre-registration is required for EFT), e-check or credit card through the Division of Taxation's Corporation Business Tax Online Services and Payment Services. Direct deposit of refunds is not supported.
