New (tax) year, new help!

Fixed Assets and UltraTax CS 2023 help is now on Help and Support. We're still moving articles, but you can find most content for the 2023 tax year there. Continue using the Help & How-To Center for tax years 2022 and older.

To make this election, access Screen A, located under the Itemized folder, and enter the amount of medical expenses paid on behalf of a decedent within one year following the date of death in the Elect to deduct decedent's medical expenses statement dialog. Making this tax election waives the right to deduct the same medical expenses for the estate tax purposed under IRC Section 2053. UltraTax CS prints the descriptions and amounts entered in this statement dialog in a tax election that prints with the return. If the return will be filed electronically, the tax election will be included in the electronic file.

Important! If you make this election in Screen A, do not make the same election in Screen Letter in the General folder, as duplicate elections may print. Expenses entered in the statement dialog do not automatically transfer to the Schedule A. Medical expenses to be included in the calculation of itemized deductions should be entered separately in the Medical and dental expenses field in Screen A.
