Question

When necessitated by a short-year return, can two 1120 or 1065 returns for the same client in the same tax year be e-filed?

Answer

Yes, UltraTax CS will allow two 1065 or 1120 clients with the same EIN to be e-filed in the same year. The two clients must have different tax year ends (ending in separate months) in order to be eligible for e-filing. For example, a short-year 1/1/18 - 9/30/18 and a short-year 10/1/18 - 12/31/18 return for the same client can be e-filed using the 2018 UltraTax CS program.

Note: The year ends for the client must not be in the same month (i.e. a year end of 6/15/18 and a year end of 6/30/18). If filing two returns for the same client for the same tax year with year-ends in the same month, the return must be paper filed.
