Required

You will need to complete the following setup steps to use UltraTax CS.  We recommend these steps be completed in order.

Step 1:  Administrative tasks to get started

Follow the steps below to complete administrative setup before getting started within UltraTax CS.

  1. Make sure you've completed the administrative steps in Getting started with your new CS Professional Suite application.
  2. Staff members that will transmit electronic files from UltraTax CS will need to enable multifactor authentication on their Thomson Reuters ID or NetStaff CS account depending on your licenses.
  3. If your firm will be transmitting electronic files, Thomson Reuters needs to have a copy of your e-file application summary on file.
  4. If you are bringing data over from another program, follow our Help & How to Center guide on how to prepare that data for conversions, and expectations.

Step 2:  Install UltraTax CS and configure your environment

  1. Work with your IT professional to make sure your environment meets our system requirements.
  2. To install your programs, see the  UltraTax Installation Toolkit. If you are on Virtual Office CS or SaaS, follow the steps here instead:  Installation and setup guide for Virtual Office CS or SaaS.

Step 3:  Set up UltraTax CS

  1. If your firm will use a single EFIN, go to Setup > Office Configuration > E-Filing tab, select the first option for All returns in this office will file using EFIN and enter the EFIN. If multiple EFINS will be used, leave the option to  Several EFINS are being used. You'll enter the EFINs when you set up preparers in the next step.
  2. Set up preparers to assign to clients. This is done under Setup > Office Configuration > Preparers tab. See Setting Up Preparer, Reviewer and Staff Information.
  3. Enter your firm information and EIN within Setup > System Configuration > Firm tab. If necessary, your firm administrator can change the firm address and name by following these instructions: Change your firm name, address, and/or phone number online.

Step 4:  Set up clients

Went through conversion

If you converted, once you receive your data you need to proforma it into 2018 UltraTax CS. See How to download and proforma converted files for instructions.

Did not convert clients

If you did not convert and need to add new clients, open UltraTax CS and choose File > New Client. Add a client ID and select the appropriate entity type and states.
