When troubleshooting UltraTax CS installation that fails or the application's configuration, in rare cases you may need to modify the Windows Registry. Our Support Representatives can help identify a problem with the registry, but they are not qualified to walk you through the necessary changes. The information below may be provided to your IT professional if you are not able to make these changes yourself.

We recommend that you make a backup of the Windows Registry before continuing. Thomson Reuters also recommends that you consult your qualified IT professional before making changes to the registry as problems with the registry can cause serious problems with your computer's operating system.

Prior attempts to install UltraTax CS will have established registry key data. If the stored registry key data is no longer valid, you may need to manually clear it. Use the tables below to look up registry keys, review their values and correct them if needed.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Creative Solutions\CSI Tools\Installation Determines where the user profile looks for the installations of CS Professional Suite applications.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Creative Solutions\CS Filing Cabinet Determines where the user profile looks for the installation of FileCabinet CS or File Drawer.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Creative Solutions\CS Filing Cabinet* Determines where the machine looks for the installation of FileCabinet CS or File Drawer.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Creative Solutions\CSI Tools\Installation* Determines where the machine looks for the installation of CS Professional Suite applications
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\UTWYY.exe* Determines where the machine looks for the installation of UltraTax CS, where YY represents the year of the program.

The following registry keys relate to each CS Professional Suite application that UltraTax CS will check during installation.

These items could potentially cause the UltraTax CS installation to fail if the path does not exist or the user does not have permission to them.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\DSW.exe* Determines where the machine looks for the installation of Fixed Assets CS
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\FCAB.exe* Determines where the machine looks for the installation of FileCabinet CS
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\UTP.exe* Determines where the machine looks for the installation of Planner CS
Note: For 32-bit machines, the path after Software is Microsoft instead of Wow6432Node (For example, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\).

The X:\WinCSI\Tools\CSITOOLS.TXT (where X represents the drive on which the application is installed) file should match the installation location of UltraTax CS (i.e. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Creative Solutions\CSI Tools\Installation).
