Question

My extension filing instructions are not printing. What do I do?

Answer

By default, the extension filing instructions and extension transmittal letters are configured to print as required. If your extension filing instructions and/or transmittal letter are not printing, review the following settings.

  1. With the client return open, choose File > Print Extensions and mark Create electronic file, if applicable.
  2. Click the Options button.
  3. Click the Extension Print Options tab.
  4. Unless you are completing Form 2350 or a second extension, ensure that First extension is selected. Also make sure that the Suppress client documents checkbox is not marked.
  5. Press OK.
  6. Preview the extension.
  1. Choose Setup and then the appropriate entity type (for example, 1040 Individual).
  2. On the Federal tab, click the Tax Return button in the Collation group box.
  3. Enter "extension filing instructions" in the Find what field.
  4. Click the Find button.
  5. With the Extension Filing Instructions highlighted in the list of returns, review the settings in the Print conditions and When filing electronically group boxes. By default As Required and Print on paper are selected for the Government collation.

Note: If you proforma'd your print collation settings from the previous year of UltraTax CS, the default collation settings may have been overwritten.

  6. If you made changes to your collation settings, press OK twice and preview the extension through File > Print Extensions.

This process will erase all data entry on Screen Ext. Before trying this troubleshooting option, review your extension print options and collation settings as noted above.

  1. Access Screen Ext, located under the Payments folder.
  2. Review the data entry on this screen. It may be helpful to print this input screen before proceeding to the next step. To do so, choose File > Print Current Page.
  3. On Screen Ext, choose Edit > Delete Screen Data.
  4. Re-enter any appropriate information on Screen Ext.
  5. Preview the extension through File > Print Extensions.
