UltraTax CS offers two multi-office license configurations: Branch (Multi-Office) designed for firms that use UltraTax CS at multiple branch locations and Office Share designed for firms operating as independent businesses but sharing one installation of UltraTax CS. After the initial installation of the application, the method used to configure the licenses will depend on whether your firm utilizes Branch (Multi-Office) or Office Share licensing.

Note: Branch and Office Share license arrangements must be made with the CS Professional Suite Sales department. To speak with an account representative, call 800.968.8900.

Branch (Multi-Office)

Establishing Licensing

When establishing Branch (Multi-Office) licensing, you need to place only one CS Connect call to retrieve licenses; all branch licenses will be downloaded during one call. However, you will need to determine which firm is designated as the Main or Primary firm, as you must use this firm's information (Firm ID and PIN) to download licenses.

Note: For assistance determining which branch office serves as your company's Main firm, contact Customer Service by email at cs.service@thomsonreuters.com or by calling 800.968.0600 and following the prompts.

If installing UltraTax CS for the first time, you will be prompted to enter your Firm ID and PIN. (If you are not prompted, choose Help > About UltraTax CS and click the Download Licenses button at the bottom right.) Enter the Firm ID and PIN of the Main branch office, and follow the on-screen instructions to download licenses. Once the licenses are downloaded and applied, all branch office licenses will now be available within UltraTax CS.

Processing Returns

When processing returns, UltraTax CS determines the set of firm licenses to use based on the preparer assigned to each client. When preparers are set up using Setup > Office Configuration > Preparers, each preparer can be associated with a given branch license. For more information on associating preparers, see Preparer association and default settings for multiple offices / firms.

Office Share

Establishing Licensing

When establishing Office Share licensing, separate CS Connect calls should be placed for each set of firm licenses involved in the Office Share arrangement (i.e., a different Firm ID used for each CS Connect call.)

If installing UltraTax CS for the first time, you will be prompted to enter your Firm ID and PIN. (If you are not prompted, choose Help > About UltraTax CS and click the Download Licenses button at the bottom right.) Enter the Firm ID and PIN of one of the members of the Office Share arrangement, and follow the on-screen instructions to download licenses. Once the licenses are downloaded and applied, repeat these steps for each Office Share member.

Processing Returns

When processing returns, UltraTax CS determines the set of firm licenses to use based on the preparer assigned to each client. When preparers are setup using Setup > Office Configuration > Preparers, each preparer can be associated with a given Office Share member license. For more information on associating preparers, see Preparer association and default settings for multiple offices / firms.
