Use this dialog to set options that will apply to all 990 clients subsequently added to UltraTax/990.

To open this dialog, choose Setup > 990 Exempt Organizations > Federal tab and click the New Client Options button.

Notes

  • Depending on your security configuration, you might be prompted to enter the master password before you can open any entity type's tab.
  • All of these options can be overridden on a client-by-client basis. For details, click the field-specific links below.

Fields & buttons

Estimates, Form 990-T (Screen EstT) group box

Select the appropriate option from this drop-down list to instruct UltraTax CS on how to apply any current-year overpayment for Form 990-T.

Notes

  • This option applies to all 990 clients subsequently added to UltraTax CS.
  • To set this option on a client-by-client basis (or to override this option for a specific client), select the appropriate option from the drop-down list for the Application of current year overpayment field on Screen EstT.

Select the appropriate option from this drop-down list to indicate the method for UltraTax CS to use in determining the amount of next year's estimated tax.

Notes

  • This option applies to all 990 clients subsequently added to UltraTax CS.
  • To set this option on a client-by-client basis (or to override this option for a specific client), select the appropriate option from the drop-down list for the Next year declaration field on Screen EstT.

Enter the amount up to which you want to round estimated payments. The estimated payments will be rounded up to the nearest amount indicated.

Example: To round each estimate payment up to the nearest $10, enter 10 in this field.

Notes

  • UltraTax CS automatically rounds each estimate payment up to the next dollar if nothing is entered here or in the Amount to round up each estimate field on Screen EstT.
  • This amount applies to all 990 clients subsequently added to UltraTax CS.
  • To set this amount on a client-by-client basis (or to override this amount for a specific client), enter the appropriate amount in the Amount to round up each estimate field on Screen EstT.

Estimates, Form 990-PF (Screen EstPF) group box

Select the appropriate option from this drop-down list to instruct UltraTax CS on how to apply any current-year overpayment for Form 990-PF.

  • This option applies to all 990 Private Foundation clients subsequently added to UltraTax CS.
  • To set this option on a client-by-client basis (or to override this option for a specific client), select the appropriate option from the drop-down list for the Application of current year overpayment field on Screen EstPF.

Select the appropriate option from this drop-down list to indicate the method for UltraTax CS to use in determining the amount of next year's estimated tax.

Other group box

Mark this checkbox to create an initial unrelated business activity when starting a new client. A 990T activity called “Unrelated Business Activity” will be added to Screen ActivT. If needed, add an unrelated tax code and update the description on Screen ActivT. If not needed, delete the activity from Screen ActivT.

Mark this checkbox to file the return electronically. This option does not apply to Form 990-T returns.

  • This option applies to all 990 clients subsequently added to the application.
  • To make this choice on a client-by-client basis (or to override this option for a specific client), mark the File Form 990 / 990-EZ / 990-PF return or 990-N postcard electronically field in Screen ELF.

The completion of Form 990, Part II, columns B, C, and D is optional for organizations not classified under section 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), or 4947(a)(1).

To display the information you entered for these columns, even when the organization is not required to complete these columns, mark this checkbox.

Notes

  • This option applies to all 990 clients subsequently added to UltraTax CS that are not section 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), or 4947(a)(1) trusts.
  • To set this option on a client-by-client basis (or to override this option for a specific client), mark or clear the Print expense detail field on Screen Exp.

To have UltraTax CS suppress the preparer's EIN or PTIN in the preparer's block section of the return, mark this checkbox.

Notes

  • This option applies to all 990 clients subsequently added to UltraTax CS, except for organizations that are section 4947(a)(1) trusts.
  • To set this option on a client-by-client basis (or to override this option for a specific client), mark or clear the Suppress: Preparer's EIN or PTIN on forms, if not a 4947(a)(1) trust field on Screen OthInfo or 990PF.

Mark this checkbox to have UltraTax CS limit the use of contributor information to the calculation of Schedule B.

Notes

  • This option applies to all 990 clients subsequently added to UltraTax CS.
  • To set this option on a client-by-client basis (or to override this option for a specific client), mark or clear the Exclude Schedule B from income field in the Contributor Information window (View > Contributor/Officer > Contributor Information).

Mark this checkbox to use the contributor information to calculate Schedule A, Part II, Section A.

Notes

  • This option applies to all 990 clients subsequently added to UltraTax CS.
  • To set this option on a client-by-client basis (or to override this option for a specific client), mark or clear the Calculate Schedule A 2% limitation field in the Contributor Information window (View > Contributor/Officer > Contributor Information).

Select Paper, Email, or File from the drop-down list to specify the delivery method. The method selected will be reported in the Return Delivery column of the Setup > Client Communications dialog.

Notes

  • You can view the selected tax return method in the client's Screen Contact in the General folder.
  • This option applies to all 990 clients subsequently added to the application.
  • For clients whose data was converted from another tax application, the options set in this tab when you first open the client apply.
  • To set this option on a client-by-client basis (or to override this option for a specific client), choose the applicable option from the drop-down list in the Return Delivery column in Setup > Client Communications dialog.

UltraTax CS defaults to printing both the U.S. mail and the private delivery address in the filing instructions. To change this default, select the appropriate option from this drop-down list.

  • To set this option on a client-by-client basis (or to override this option for a specific client), select the appropriate option from the drop-down list for the Mailing address for filing instructions field on Screen Letter.

Select either Yes or No from the drop-down list to have this response entered for the "May the IRS discuss this return with the preparer shown above" question on Form 990, Page 1 or "May the IRS discuss this return with the preparer shown below" on Form 990-PF, Page 13 or Form 990-T, Page 2.

  • This option applies to all 990 clients subsequently added to UltraTax CS.
  • The option selected here also applies to state returns that have an authorize to discuss question on the state form.
  • To answer this question on a client-by-client basis (or to override this option for a specific client), select the appropriate option from the drop-down list for the IRS may discuss return with preparer field on Screen 990T.

Enter an amount to indicate the maximum out-of-balance threshold. UltraTax CS performs an out-of-balance adjustment up to the amount you specify. UltraTax CS does not perform any adjustment if the balance sheet is out of balance by more than the amount in this field. UltraTax CS automatically creates an adjustment to accounts payable, or if there is no balance in accounts payable, UltraTax CS adjusts cash to correct an out-of-balance condition between assets and liabilities.

  • To set this option on a client-by-client basis (or to override this option for a specific client), enter a different tolerance in the Maximum amount for balance sheet rounding field on Screen Bal or BalPF.
