Forms included in the e-file

The following forms can be electronically filed and are automatically included in the electronic XML file:

  • Form BIRT,
  • Form BIRT-EZ,
  • Form NPT
Philadelphia forms can be filed for the current year only.

Forms not supported for e-filing

The following types of Philadelphia returns cannot be filed electronically and must be filed on paper:

  • Fiscal year returns,
  • Short year returns,
  • Extensions,
  • Estimates,
  • Amended returns

Signature authorization 

Form NPT has the same signature forms as BIRT and will only print if BIRT is not being e-filed.

Payment options

Philadelphia accepts payments via electronic funds withdrawal, online electronic payment services available on Philadelphia’s website, and paper check.

New for 2017 tax returns, Philadelphia requires all payments to be made electronically when any combination of taxes/estimates due are greater than or equal to $5,000 for Business Income and Receipts (BIRT/BIRT-EZ) and Net Profits Tax (NPT).
