New (tax) year, new help!

Fixed Assets and UltraTax CS 2023 help is now on Help and Support. We're still moving articles, but you can find most content for the 2023 tax year there. Continue using the Help & How-To Center for tax years 2022 and older.

For 1040 returns, the default salutation on the transmittal letter is "Dear" followed by the client's first name.

  • To use a word other than "Dear," change the default in the Document Editing window.
  • To print the client's last name or some other variation of the client's name, change the salutation for the client in Screen 1040.

For returns other than 1040 returns, the default salutation on the transmittal letter is "Dear" followed by the word "BLANK" if you do not enter a name in the client's Screen Letter. If you intend to use the transmittal letter, open Screen Letter and enter the name you want to use in the Salutation field.

You can use Screen Letter to override the default service center information. (UltraTax CS automatically determines the appropriate IRS service center based on the state postal code entered in the general information input screen.)

Complete these tasks to change the default salutation and/or IRS Service Center.

  1. Open the desired client using File > Open Client.
  2. In the folders block, click the General folder.
  3. Click the tab for Screen 1040.
  4. In the Salutation field, enter the salutation you want to appear in this client's letter.
  5. Click the tab for Screen Letter.
  6. From the drop-down list for the IRS Service Center field, select the desired service center.
