New (tax) year, new help!

Fixed Assets and UltraTax CS 2023 help is now on Help and Support. We're still moving articles, but you can find most content for the 2023 tax year there. Continue using the Help & How-To Center for tax years 2022 and older.

You can use CS Connect Background Services to keep your UltraTax CS (including Source Data Entry and Bar Code Scan) software updated. In addition, you can determine who has access to CS Connect Background Services.

To change CS Connect Background Services options, choose Setup > System Configuration, and then click the CS Connect tab.

Notes

  • The options you set for CS Connect Background Services affect FileCabinet CS, Fixed Assets CS, and UltraTax CS.
  • A domain user account must be logged into the network on the computer that is running CS Connect Background Services, and must have local permissions to update UltraTax CS.
  • Electronic filing acknowledgements are no longer available for download through CS Connect Background Services.

Updates

By default, the Enable CS Connect Background Services checkbox is marked to Apply updates automatically as each user's processing permits (recommended). However, you can choose to apply updates at a specified time.

Notes

  • Updates will apply so long as you are not actively working in the product that needs to be updated. For example, if you are processing a 1040 Alabama return, then any 1040 Alabama updates will not apply until you close that return, and close and reopen UltraTax CS.
  • If there are pending updates that impact the open return, "Updates" will appear at the end of the form list.
  • To retrieve and update licenses from our secure data centers via CS Connect, you must set the Retrieve licenses switch to Yes and then click the Connect button.

Access to CS Connect Background Services

By default, all computers on the network are allowed to run background services. To limit this option to only the computer you are using, choose Setup > System Configuration, and then click the CS Connect tab and select the Only this computer option.
