New (tax) year, new help!

Fixed Assets and UltraTax CS 2023 help is now on Help and Support. We're still moving articles, but you can find most content for the 2023 tax year there. Continue using the Help & How-To Center for tax years 2022 and older.

Scenario

During the UltraTax CS product installation, you may see a "Result: Failed" status for the license, platform, or a federal entity like 1040, 1065, or 1120.

Cause

The internet connection on the machine running the installation is weak, or the antivirus software running on the machine is interfering with the installation.

Solutions

Improve the internet connection

  • If you're on a wireless network (wifi) move to an ethernet connection. Wifi is not supported because the connection can be unstable.
  • Make sure your internet is working. Work with your IT professional or internet service provider if there are any issues with your internet.

Create antivirus exceptions

Create the required antivirus (AV) exceptions. Without these exceptions, you're likely to have problems updating your software throughout the year. You can also lose client data.

You can try disabling your AV, but if that doesn't work you should still set the AV exceptions. Disabling doesn't necessarily turn the software off completely.

Reinstall

  1. Go to X:\WinCSI\, where X represents the drive where the application is installed.
  2. Right-click the UTYY folder, where YY represents the last two digits of the year version of UltraTax CS.
  3. Choose Rename.
  4. Add ".old" to the end of the folder name.
  5. Run the installation again.
