If amounts are not printing on the PA return, it may be that the font file used is either missing or outdated. Wingdings may appear instead. The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue requires the use of the OCR-A BT font on all forms generated by computer software.

To correct this behavior, the font file should be deleted and reinstalled. Follow the procedure below.

  1. First, you must obtain a new version of the font file. Click here to download the font file to your computer. Save it to your Desktop or another convenient location. Note: The font.zip file will need to be unzipped to access the OCR-A BT font file.

  2. Click Start > Control Panel > Fonts. Note: If you do not see the Fonts icon, change the view by selecting Small Icons or Large Icons from the View by: list in the upper right-hand corner.

  3. If the OCR-A BT (ocra.ttf) file is listed in your Font list, delete the file and reboot your workstation.

  4. After rebooting (if needed), locate the Font folder you downloaded in the first step. There should be two font files in this folder.

  5. Right-click on csutocra.ttf and click Install.

  6. After installing the font, reboot your workstation and open UltraTax CS to preview/print a client with Form PA-40.

Support

  •  For VO-Firms if it's fonts, sending the OCR-A BT font from c:\windows\fonts and having them place in the fonts folder and rebooting also works.
  • For Windows Vista, go to Start > Control Panel > Fonts, and choose File > Install New Font > select the directory where the font resides > highlight the font  and click Install. If File is not an option in the Control Panel, right-click in the fonts area and choose Install New Font.
  • If OCR-A BT doesn't show up in the Fonts folder, check the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft|Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts, and delete from here before installing. The system must be restarted after the fonts install.
