New (tax) year, new help!

Fixed Assets and UltraTax CS 2023 help is now on Help and Support. We're still moving articles, but you can find most content for the 2023 tax year there. Continue using the Help & How-To Center for tax years 2022 and older.

Use this tab to enter your IRS-assigned Electronic Filing Identification Number (EFIN). For more information, see Configuring UltraTax CS for electronic returns overview.

To open this tab, choose Setup > Office Configuration, and click the E-filing tab.

Fields & buttons

EFIN (Electronic Filing Identification Number) group box

Click this option if your firm will use the same Electronic Filing Identification Number (EFIN) for all electronically filed returns. Enter your six-digit, IRS-assigned EFIN in the text field next to this option.

Note: Because two offices or branches cannot share the same EFIN, this option is disabled if you are using an office share or branch license installation of UltraTax CS.

Click this option if your firm's preparers will use unique Electronic Filing Identification Numbers (EFINs) for electronically filed returns. To assign an EFIN to a preparer, click this option, open the Setup > Office Configuration > Preparers tab > Preparer Information dialog, and enter the EFIN in the Preparer EFIN field.

Note: If you are using an office share or branch license installation of UltraTax CS, you need to use this option and assign an EFIN to each preparer in the Setup > Office Configuration > Preparers tab > Preparer Information dialog.

Click this button to open the States dialog, which you can use to edit the list of states returns for which UltraTax CS may create an electronic file.

If you are not authorized to electronically file state returns or if you want to suppress the creation of the electronic file for some or all state returns, clear appropriate state checkboxes in the States dialog.

Note: The States dialog is applicable only for electronically filed state returns.

Click this button to open the Electronic Return Originator (ERO) dialog, which you can use to specify alternate ERO information if you do not want to use the licensed firm information. Also, if you are using the Practitioner PIN option to electronically sign 1040 electronic returns (rather than the Self-Select PIN), mark the Practitioner PIN Program filer checkbox in the ERO dialog.

Electronic filing mandate group box

Mark this checkbox if the number of 1040 and 1041 returns filed by the firm (total for all preparers) is less than 11. Preparers in that firm are not covered by the electronic filing mandate starting with tax year 2011, and Form 8948 is not a required attachment for paper returns.
