Integration between Engagement CS and PPC's SMART Practice Aids allows you to bring advanced audit functionality to your licensed Practice Aids products. When PPC's SMART Practice Aids is installed, you can perform the following tasks and insert the completed audit documents into the current engagement.

  • Complete all of your planning documentation.
  • Identify and capture audit risks affecting your engagement.
  • Select an audit strategy in response to your risk assessment.
  • Use drag-and-drop functionality to easily customize your tasks.
  • Produce tailored Practice Aids for your engagement.

For more information on the integration between Engagement CS and SMART Practice Aids, refer to K28280259.

With the desired engagement open in Engagement CS, click the SMART Practice Aids button on the Engagement CS toolbar (or choose Tasks > PPC > SMART Practice Aids) to start the integration. If this option is missing in Engagement CS, look at the following:

  • Verify that PPC's SMART Practice Aids is installed on the local machine.
In order to integrate properly with Engagement CS, all PPC products are required to be installed to each local machine. To confirm that the application is installed, navigate to the Windows Start menu > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and locate PPC Smart Practice Aids.
  • Verify that there has been an engagement created prior to integrating and that the focus is on that engagement in the Tree View window.
If the only item within the Engagement CS tree view is the "Trial Balance Status", an engagement has not been created. In Engagement CS choose File > New > Engagement to create a new engagement prior to attempting to integrate with PPC's Smart Practice Aids. If an engagement does exist, however, make sure the focus in the tree view window is on that particular engagement (not the Trial Balance). To do this, single click on the name of the engagement within the tree view.
  • Verify that the engagement has not been Wrapped Up.
If the engagement has been wrapped up you cannot integrate with Smart Practice Aids. To determine whether the engagement has been wrapped up after the name of the engagement in the Tree View window it will say (Complete).
  • Identify if you are working in the Local Client Data or the Master Client Data.
After the name of the engagement in the tree view window verify it says (Master). This means you are working in the Master Client Data (MCD). If instead, it says (Local) you are working in the Local Client Data (LCD). PPC's Smart Practice Aids will only directly integrate with the MCD copy of the client. Although the direct integration is not available if you are working in a LCD copy of a client you can still bring in generated documents from PPC's Smart Practice Aids. To do this, choose File > New > Document and mark "Document from SMART Practice Aids(TM)" available from the PPC tab. Insert the selected SMART Practice Aids into the engagement.
  • Ensure that there are no other staff members in the client.
If multi-staff functionality is enabled on the client and you have more than one staff member working in the engagement, the ability to integrate directly with PPC's Smart Practice Aids is disabled; however, you can still bring documents created by Smart Practice Aids into the engagement by choosing File > New > Document and marking "Document from SMART Practice Aids(TM)" available from the PPC tab. Insert the selected SMART Practice Aids into the engagement.
  • Verify the versions of each program.
In order to integrate properly, for PPC's Smart Practice Aids you must have installed at least CD version 12-07 and Engagement CS at least version 2008.0.0. It is highly recommended, however, that each program is updated to its latest version.
