Adobe Acrobat Add-Ins overview

The GoFileRoom Adobe Acrobat Add-In allows you to do the following:

Notes

  • The use of the Adobe Acrobat Add-In requires that network users be members of the Power Users group.
  • GoFileRoom does not currently support the mirror feature in Adobe. To use the mirror feature, you must first close the version of the file that you wish to save in GoFileRoom, or click the  Add to GoFileRoom Save to GoFileRoom button button in the Adobe Acrobat Add-in to keep both versions.

Installation instructions

The Adobe Acrobat Add-In is included in the installation of other GoFileRoom Client Add-Ins.

Configuration

GoFileRoom Administrators can configure the Adobe Acrobat Add-In by editing the various settings in the GFRPDFModify.ini file located in the Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GoFileRoom\GFRAcrobat folder. (or, in 64-bit Windows operating systems, C:\ProgramData\gofileroom\GFRAcrobat) Common settings are as follows:

  • If your firm will use the Adobe Acrobat Add-In with the Upload Documents Service, you must update the UseGFRUpload value to true.

If the Upload Documents Service is installed locally (as is sometimes the case with dedicated scan stations and laptops), you must verify that the Network value is set to false. If the Upload Documents service is installed on a network server or remote machine, you must verify that the Network value is set to true.

  • To change the calculator that is opened from the GoFileRoom TaxTools menu in Acrobat, update the file path in the CALCULATOR row to point to the desired calculator's EXE file.

Troubleshooting

Symptom

The Acrobat Add-In is installed, but the GoFileRoom toolbars are not found in Acrobat.

Description

The Acrobat Add-In installs Acrobat plug-ins (API files) in the following folder on your computer: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat x.0\Acrobat\plug_ins\ (or, in 64-bit Windows operating systems, C:\Program Files (x86)\adobe\Acrobat 10.0\acrobat\plug_ins)

If the GoFileRoom toolbars are not displayed in Acrobat, the Acrobat plug-in directory for the current workstation is not one of the default locations listed above.

Resolution 1

Navigate to C:\Program Files\GoFileRoom\GFRAcrobat\Distribution (or, in 64-bit Windows operating systems, C:\Program Files (x86)\GoFileRoom\GFRAcrobat\Distribution) and double-click the GFRAcrobatInstaller.exe file.

Resolution 2

Open Adobe Acrobat and press ALT+F8 to reset the toolbars.

Resolution 3

  1. Find your Acrobat plug-ins directory.
    1. Open Adobe Acrobat.
    2. Choose Help > About Adobe Plug-Ins.
    3. Note the path of the Plug-Ins directory in the Installed Plug-ins section. For example, C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat x.0\Acrobat\plug_ins.
  2. Close Acrobat.
  3. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat x.0\Acrobat\plug_ins\ (or, in 64-bit Windows operating systems, C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat x.0\Acrobat\plug_ins).
  4. Copy all API files and the Annotations folder.
  5. Paste the API files and Annotations folder into your Acrobat plug-ins directory as previously noted.
  6. Choose to Yes to overwrite all, if prompted.

Resolution 4

  1. Open Adobe Acrobat and choose Edit > Preferences.
  2. Click General in the Categories list.
  3. In the Application Startup section, verify that the Use only certified plug-ins checkbox is unmarked and that the current setting for "Currently in Certified Mode" is "No."
  4. If clearing the Use only certified plug-ins checkbox and restarting Acrobat does not resolve the issue, contact GoFileRoom Support .
