Terminal Server Troubleshooting Guidelines

Show expandable text

When troubleshooting issues with CS Professional Suite applications in a terminal server/remote desktop environment, there are several key troubleshooting questions to ask:

  • Does the issue occur to one user or all users running from the terminal server?
    • If the issue occurs to one user, then you should troubleshoot the user profile.
    • If the issue occurs to all users, then you should troubleshoot the installation on the terminal server.
  • Does the issue occur when a user sits down at the terminal server console as an administrator?
    • If the answer is no, then you should look at permissions.
  • Does the issue occur when the same user runs from a LAN workstation instead of the terminal server?
    • If the answer is no, then you should troubleshoot the installation on the terminal server.
  • What happens if you temporarily make a user a local administrator on the terminal server?
    • If you have success as a local administrator, then you should look at permissions for the user.
  • Does the issue occur on other terminal servers?
    • If the answer is no, then you should troubleshoot the installation on that terminal server.

Note: This list of troubleshooting questions is not comprehensive but is a starting guide for terminal server/remote desktop environments.
