You can set up Accounting CS to update the posting period for a transaction based on the transaction date. If you do not mark this checkbox, the application uses the current posting period as the default when you enter a transaction. If you mark the checkbox, the application uses the posting period in which the transaction date falls as the default in all data entry screens.

To enable this option, choose Setup > Clients and select the appropriate client in the client selection field. Click the Accounting Information tab and mark the Transaction date defaults posting period checkbox.

Notes

  • This option works for only those transactions dated in the current year (same year as the system date).
  • If you mark this checkbox for a client and Accounting CS Client Access is enabled for the client, the setting will apply to Accounting CS in both your office and your client's office.
  • When this checkbox is marked, entering or changing the transaction date will affect the posting period as follows.
    • If there is no default date in the data entry screen, the application uses the current posting period. When you enter a transaction date, the application updates the posting period to the period in which the transaction date falls.
    • If you modify the transaction date, the application updates the posting period to the period in which the transaction date falls when you move to the next field.
    • You can override the default posting period. If you override the posting period and then enter or edit the transaction date, the application retains the overridden posting period.
    • If the transaction date falls within a closed period or if you do not have security to access prior periods, the application uses the client's current posting period.
  • To update this setting for multiple clients at the same time, click the Editing Multiple Clients link, mark the Accounting Information checkbox and click Next, select the clients to update and click Next, mark the Transaction date defaults posting period checkbox and select Yes (to mark the checkbox) or No (to clear the checkbox) in the Details column, and then click Finish.
  • The Transaction date defaults posting period checkbox is available in the Setup > Client Templates > Accounting Information tab.
