Adding and appending scanned objects in an engagement

For licensed users of Accounting CS Workpapers

To scan a workpaper or image into an engagement binder, you must be connected to a WIA- or TWAIN-compliant device.

Adding a scanned workpaper

  1. In the Engagement Binders Tree portlet, click the Scan Workpaper icon in the toolbar or select Scan as the Workpaper Type in the Add Workpaper Wizard.
  2. If your computer is connected to more than one scanner source, click the Select Source button to select the scanner that you want to use in the Workpaper Type screen of the wizard. (Note that Scan is automatically selected in the Source field when you click the Scan Workpaper button.)
  3. Click the Scan new workpaper(s) option and click Next.
  4. Select the workpapers or images that you want to insert into the engagement binder from the WIA- or TWAIN-compliant device. If you are connected to a scanner, the scanner application will launch so that you can make modifications to the scanned workpaper as needed.
  5. The selected workpapers or images are available for previewing in the Scan Workpaper screen of the wizard. Rotate or delete pages before adding the workpapers or images to the engagement binder and click Next.
  6. Select the following information in the Workpapers Properties screen of the Add Workpaper Wizard.
    • Location. Select the binder folder into which the workpaper will be added.
    • Reference. Enter a unique workpaper reference number for the engagement binder.
    • Name. Enter a name for the workpaper.
    • Roll Forward. Select one of the Roll Forward treatment options from the list.
      • Exclude. Flags the workpaper for deletion during the roll forward process.
      • Include. Flags the workpaper to be included in both the final engagement and in the new engagement that is created during the roll forward process.
      • Replace - manual reference. Inserts a place holder in the engagement to assist in tracking and organizing manual documents after the roll forward is complete.
      • Replace - PPC Checkpoint Tools. Replaces the selected workpaper with another workpaper from PPC Checkpoint Tools during the roll forward process. (Note that this option is available only if you are licensed for PPC Checkpoint Tools and have the application installed.)
      • Replace - selected engagement. Replaces the selected workpaper with a workpaper from another engagement during the roll forward process.
      • Replace - SMART Practice Aids. Replaces the existing PPC workpaper with another workpaper from SMART Practice Aids during the roll forward process. (Note that this option is available only if you are licensed for SMART Practice Aids and have the application installed.)
    • Assigned. Assign a staff member from the drop-down list.
    • Finalize. Mark this checkbox to delete the workpaper when the engagement binder is finalized.
  7. Click Finish to insert the workpapers into the engagement binder.

Appending a scanned image to an existing workpaper

  1. In the Engagement Binders Tree portlet, select the target folder that contains the PDF for which you want to append a scanned image.

    Note: Only PDFs that were originally scanned into Accounting CS are available for selection.

  2. Click the Scan Workpaper icon in the toolbar of the Engagement Binders Tree portlet.
  3. If your computer is connected to more than one scanner source, click the Select Source button to select the scanner that you want to use in the Workpaper Type screen of the wizard. (Note that Scan is automatically selected in the Source field when you click the Scan Workpaper button.)
  4. Click the Append to existing workpaper option, highlight the target PDF in the workpapers grid, and then click Next.
  5. The selected workpapers or images are available for previewing in the Scan Workpaper screen of the wizard. Rotate or delete pages before adding the workpapers or images to the engagement binder and click Next.
  6. Click the Finish button in the Workpaper Properties screen to append the scanned image to the selected workpaper.

Notes

  • All scanned workpapers are created as a PDF and can be edited in the PDF editor as needed.
  • For specific information about the operation of your scanner or device, please refer to the user manual.
  • To help you achieve the best quality and minimize file size (DPI is the document's resolution), we recommend that you scan documents at 400 DPI, black and white (also known as binary, text, and monochrome). If you must scan in color or grayscale, set the resolution to no greater than 300 DPI, otherwise you may produce file sizes in excess of 1 megabyte per page.   • When you scan directly into FileCabinet CS from Accounting CS, the images obtained by your scanner are scanned directly into FileCabinet CS, and if your scanner supports duplex scanning, the images are imported into FileCabinet CS as duplex images.
