Mark the checkbox for any item(s) from the following list that apply to the selected employee.

  • New hire FICA credit. If the employee qualifies for the new hire FICA credit (from the HIRE Act), mark this checkbox.
    • When this checkbox is marked for an employee, the employer FICA-SS tax amount will be 0.00 for payroll checks processed for that employee with pay dates from April 2010 through December 2010, and the appropriate amounts will be reflected on relevant reports.
    • The date of hire specified on this tab for the employee must be between February 4, 2010, and December 31, 2010, before the New Hire FICA Credit checkbox can be marked.
    • The program does not allow both this checkbox and the Family of Owner checkbox to be marked simultaneously.
    • Form 941 has been updated to accommodate the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act. The Edit > New Hire FICA Credit Information command in the Setup > Employees window displays the FICA-SS employer exempt wages amount earned between March 19 and March 31, 2010. The program calculates this amount when you change payroll periods to or from a March 2010 period or when you choose Edit > Rebuild First-Quarter FICA Credit from the Setup > Employees window. You can also enter an adjustment in the New Hire FICA Credit Information dialog, if needed.
  • Officer. Mark this checkbox if the selected employee is an officer.
  • Full FUTA Rate. Mark this checkbox if the selected employee is not subject to SUTA tax and should thus be subject to the full FUTA rate and not receive the SUTA tax credit. This checkbox applies to corporate officers, for example.
  • Probationary. Mark this checkbox if this is a probationary employee.
  • Seasonal. Mark this checkbox if this is a seasonal employee. (Functional for the year 2005 and later only.)
  • Union. Mark this checkbox if the employee is a union member.
  • Health Insurance. Mark this checkbox if the employee has health insurance.
  • 401K Top Heavy. Marking this checkbox alters the 401(k) calculations to account for the top-heavy limitations.
  • Alternative Minimum Wage. Marking this checkbox causes any minimum wage checking to be based on the "training" minimum wage.
  • W-4 Filed. Mark this checkbox if the employee has filed a W-4.
  • Family of owner. Mark this checkbox if the employee is related to the owner of the business.
  • Agricultural.Mark this checkbox if this employee is an agricultural employee.
  • Employment Eligibility Verified. For a user of the E-Verify (Employment Eligibility Verification) program, this checkbox is marked automatically when the initial verification file is created. If you need to send a subsequent verification query to E-Verify, you will first need to clear this checkbox to enable this employee's name to be available from the E-Verify Employee Selection dialog.
  • Nonresident alien. Mark this checkbox if this employee is a nonresident alien.
  • Workers' Fund Exempt. Mark this checkbox if the employee is Workers' Fund exempt.
  • Exclude from catch-up. Mark this checkbox to exclude the selected employee from the 401(k) catch-up provision.
  • SSN Verified. This checkbox is automatically marked when you create an employee verification file that includes this employee, and you can also mark it manually. When this checkbox is marked, the employee will not be included in any SSN verification files.
  • Daily time entry. Mark this checkbox to specify that the selected employee is using daily time entry.
